My Best Friend

I was always around photography growing up, my dad was a photographer back in our country and some times he would take me with him when he had to shot an event or just to chill at his shop, but I never saw myself doing it. Me taking pictures??? Nooooo

I took on photography a few months back when I moved to a new city, I had no friends, I didn’t know anyone at all ( I still have no friends, but that’s a different story), I needed something to keep me grounded and prevent me from going crazy, somehow photography ended up being that something.

Since them my camera has become my best friend, where ever I go she (yes my camera is a she) goes and whatever I do she is by my side. It has help me to not be afraid of going out and sitting alone at a caffè or a restaurant, it has taught me to approach people and try to make friends and most important it helps me see the world from so many different points of view.

I am not a photographer, hell I don’t even know how to use half the settings on my camera, I just like taking pretty pictures because it makes me happy.

I take walks around the city and snap away capturing moments and things I find to be beautiful or interesting. Some times people don’t even notice me there in the background shooting away, other times they pose for the camera without me even having to ask them if I could take a picture of them.

One of the most important thing my camera has taught me is to say ” Excuse me, do you mind if I take a picture of you or of your (object, dog, shop)”. The person I was before I met my best friend would have never approach a random person and engage in a conversation, she would rather die. Now I do this all the time, I ask someone to take a photo of them, then I tell them follow me on IG see if I post it.

I’ve learned so much through my camera lenses, I’ve met so many fabulous people from whom I’ve also learned. I am so thankful for my best friend I wouldn’t change her for anything!

  1. I have the same camera! And I still shoot film sometimes on my other Nikon. I still haven’t conquered the fear of taking photos of random strangers. You can see from my blogs it is all of “things”.

    1. I would love to learn how to work film, like my fad used to! and the fair its only present the first time, after you do it once you’ll do it a million times again. Now your photos of things are great!!!

  2. I will keep that in mind about the photos of people, and it is true. I’ll give it a try! And thank you for the compliment. Been taking photos seriously for about 14 years, the first 10 of which were all on film. I never learned to develop them or anything like that. The nice thing these days is with camera phones together with film you can preview the shot on your phone since you really only get one shot with a film photo, and have to wait for the results. Just like with vinyl records, I like film as a throwback. Almost all of the recent shots are digital however.

  3. Nice post. You give a really interesting perspective on photography and how taking photos can connect you with others. It also seems to have given you more confidence. I hope you continue to enjoy it.
